The art of photography has been around for over 200 years, and with it the advancements made in technology have been ethereal, going from needing to have your subjects captured for hours, if not days at a timer, to capturing them in an instant. With all this new technology there has not only been an influx of camera choices but also different photographers, due to there being an easier and cheaper way to take pictures. With all these new photographers, they are able to bring in thousands of new styles and genres that keep the art of photography alive and will keep it alive for years to come. In this article I will go over a few of the many beautiful styles and their adjacent genres.
Style

A style I want to mention is Contemporary Landscape, which does not only look at the landscape solely, but tries to capture the way that people have adapted to it, and the way they perceive it entirely. This style is quieter and more personal, as opposed to the “louder” style of event photography. The style came about in the 1970’s and is continued to be at forefront of the freelance photographers, not only does it allow those to question the meaning of beauty, but it also allows the audience to add their own perception of what they find beautiful about such photos. Genre

A genre I want to discuss is the humorous side of photography. Not only have there been entire competitions and categories to which photographer can take the funniest picture, but it also acts as a well needed distraction from other more serious and depressing types, such as wartime photography. Humor in photography not only allows us to hone our skills to capture a truly hilarious moment, but it acts as a constant reminder to find the silliness in a dreary situation.
